What Does a Dehumidifer Do?
Simply put, a dehumidifier captures excess water (e.g., dampness or moisture) in an environment and thus prevents the growth of mildew and mold. PIE 2.0 beta 1 released
I am thrilled to announce the release of CSS3 PIE 2.0 beta 1! This is the first official release of the 2.0 development line, which has seen several major refactoring efforts to improve performance, enhance feature support, and fix many long-standing bugs.

The major changes from 1.0 are:
- PIE.htc is now a very small (~2K) stub file which loads a secondary logic file optimized for the current IE version, resulting in a smaller total download size. See the blog post on the new loading system for details on how this works and its benefits. As a user this shouldn’t change how you use PIE, except that instead of only copying a single file you now need to copy all the files in the distribution directory together as a unit.
- A new -pie-load-path property can be set in the CSS for the <html> element to customize where the secondary logic files are loaded from, for example an external CDN.
- The VML renderers in IE 6-8 have been heavily refactored: the resulting DOM is smaller, and the VML is now initially built up as a single markup string and inserted all at once instead of using the DOM API. This makes the insertion faster, and also allows the use of certain VML features that could not be used before (e.g. o:opacity2).
- The linear-gradient parsing has been updated to support the final spec syntax (the “to side” syntax and new angle origin.) You will need to update your CSS to the new syntax to avoid incorrect angles or blank rendering.
- Linear gradients with rgba colors can now render the alpha channel in IE 6-8, but only for gradients with two stops.
- Linear gradients in IE 9 are now rendered using Canvas rather than SVG, which allows it to display properly when used along with -ms-transform.
- Box-shadow rendering in IE 6-8 now properly renders the alpha channel in rgba colors when the shadow has a blur radius.
- Border-radius rendering in IE 6-8 has been refactored, fixing the “bumps on corners” bug when the border width is larger than the corner radius, adding support for groove/ridge/inset/outset borders, and improving transitions around corners between differing border styles. The new border-radius demo page shows the improved rendering.
- The background-origin, background-size, and background-clip parameters within the -pie-background shorthand property are now supported for non-repeating backgrounds in IE 6-8.
- Various other minor fixes; see the full changelog for details.
This is definitely an early beta, so it’s very likely there are many new bugs to be squashed. While the stable PIE 1.0.0 release is still the recommended version for public sites, I do encourage everyone to try out the beta and report back any bugs or other issues you may encounter in the new 2.0.x beta forum. Even if you don’t encounter problems, reporting back your success will also be helpful to help us gauge stability and move toward a swift final release.

Author, journalist, poet and artist, Charles Green Shaw (1892-1974) was an important figure in early American abstract art. He was born into a wealthy New York family and lived a life of privilege "earning" him a place in the group known as the "Park Avenue Cubists."

Though Shaw took an interest in art as a child it wasn't until 1927 that he began to focus on developing his talent; studying under artist George Luks and enrolling in the Art Students League in New York. Intent on further honing his skills, Shaw traveled to Europe from 1929-1932 where he immersed himself in the arts.

It wasn't until after returning to New York in 1932 that Shaw considered himself a painter. Though inspired by the European styles of art that he was exposed to in his travels, notably Neo-plasticism and Cubism, Shaw sought to create a style of abstract art that was uniquely American and his own; what he soon developed was the style he called "Concretionist".

In 1933 he began what many consider his most important work, a series of paintings in the "Concretionist" style called "Plastic Polygons", which were inspired by the New York skyline.

In 1936 Shaw helped form the Abstract American Artists group, which contributed to the development and acceptance of abstract art in the United States and still exists today. His works are in the collections of many prominent galleries and museums including MOMA, Guggenheim and The Met.

A dollar store fall wreath
How to make a fall wreath with dollar store materials

Hellooo there! I’m finally pulling out the fall decor this week! This is SO late for me -- usually I’m itching to get it out in August! This year I wanted to make sure I was completely done going through the basement before I started lugging the (cough. numerous.) bins up.

One of the projects I wanted to tackle this year was a DIY fall wreath. I was inspired by this one last year:

But because I was too ~~cheap~~ ~~impatient~~ lazy to come up with a rectangle shape, I just did a smaller, round one. It’s pretty darn cute, but also a bit wimpy. So this year, I was determined to make a large, square, fluffy fall wreath.

Start with your base
I started with some thick foam core board from Hobby Lobby for $5 – it was half an inch thick and it was already 20 inches wide, so I cut it down to 20 inches in length as well:

Btw -- you can easily use foam core from the dollar store, this is just thicker.

I wanted it to be four inches thick, so I marked a square in the middle accordingly:

I used my jigsaw to cut it out (it cut like butta!), but you could probably get away with cutting it with something else (especially if you use a thinner foam board – I use scissors.)

Remember it does not have to be perfect – you won’t see the exact shape when you’re done!
I did a really quick spray of the edges, (with red because it was the closest I found) just in case they'd show through at all:

They don’t, so you can save the two minutes and skip this step.

Add your leaves
I was trying to think of a cheap way to do this project and I remembered some packets of leaves I bought at the Dollar Tree a few weeks ago for another project. I absolutely loved the colors, the texture, and they were large – perfect for this project!
WHOO!!

I started laying them out to see what I liked:

Hmmm – it wasn’t random enough for me. So I tried a willy nilly way:

MUCH better, but the leaves were a bit flat for my liking. I wanted some POOF.

Because they’re made with wire, that was an easy fix – I crumpled up a few at a time (gently) and gave them some dimension:

(I ended up snipping off the wire stems.)

I fired up the hot glue gun and started placing them here and there, filling in any empty spots:

There was no rhyme or reason to it – just stick ‘em on!

And less than an hour later, I had just what I was looking for!:

(Our door always photographs blue, but it’s a dark brown.)

I love love LOVE these leaves! They look so real! They are made of a material that reminds me of crepe paper – but not nearly as delicate:

You do have to be gentle with them though – they tear if you’re not careful. I didn’t mind though – it made them look more real. ;)

If you have a door that’s exposed to the wind, you’ll want to add weights to the “frame” because it is very lightweight. We don’t have that problem, but I may add some sticky tack to the back just to make sure it stays put. And I’m not sure how these leaves would hold up to the elements – so you may want to test out a leaf or two.

Last year some of you suggested using a large frame as the base, and I thought that was a great idea – it would be heavy enough too!

I absolutely LOVE it – lots of color, texture and it’s simple. The best part is that it only cost $11 total! (Five for foam and six packages of the leaves at a dollar each.) And that’s only because I got the thicker foam – if you got a thinner piece from the dollar store, you’d get this done for well under ten bucks!:

It’s getting just a bit cooler here…slowly but surely. It was in the 80’s today but there was so little humidity, it felt pretty fantastic! Yay…it’s coming!! :)
